Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Placeholder Spotted On Chinese E-Commerce Site; Launch Expected Soon

Xiaomi is reportedly planning to launch the successor of its “fastest selling phone”, Redmi Note 4, the Redmi Note 5 in its homeland soon. The information comes from a listing spotted in JD.com that briefly teased the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. However listing did not contain any image of the smartphone but only shared name of the phone and price tag of CNY 8,888. It is clearly a placeholder as 8 is the lucky number of the company. The actual price of the smartphone is CNY 1,200 (roughly Rs 11,823) The JD.com is a major seller in China.

The listing was pulled down after several reports surfaced pointing out listings on the e-commerce website. The listing was first spotted by GizmoChina and it added that the Redmi Note 5 will feature an edge-to-edge display. The company has reduced the price of its one of the top selling smartphones, redmi Note 4 suggesting the launch of its successor soon. The listing did not revealed any other information regarding the phone but earlier reports suggested few specifications of the Redmi Note 5.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Specification

The specifications of the Redmi Note 5 were earlier spotted in the wild suggesting a 5.99-inch FHD+ 2.5D curved glass display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 636 processor that is based on 14nm manufacturing process and supports full-screen devices with FHD+ resolution confirming the speculation of full-screen display.

The Redmi Note 5 is expected to come with a dual camera setup on the rear with a 16MP sensor and a 5MP sensor. The device is speculated to be backed by massive 4000mAh battery. The device is said to be launched in two variants – 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB storage. The phone is most likely to run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box atop MIUI 9.

The first phone in the Redmi Note 5 series, Redmi Note 5A has already been launched in China back in August. It is an entry-level smartphone that comes in three variants – 2GB RAM/16GB storage, 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB storage priced at CNY 699 (roughly Rs 6,700), CNY 899 (roughly Rs 8,600) and CNY 1,199 (roughly Rs 11,500).
