If you are also eagerly waiting for the arrival of Redmi Note 5, then you may feel disappointed as there are reports that Xiaomi may have replaced the smartphone with the Redmi 5 Plus. The phone was launched alongside budget Redmi 5 smartphone earlier his month.
According to Redmi 5 Plus review posted by Super Moderator on MIUI Forum, Xiaomi has dropped the next iteration from the ‘Note’ branding and has launched the Redmi Note 5 as the Redmi 5 Plus.
“The wait is finally over, Xiaomi has finally decided to release the Redmi Note 5, wait!!! I heard its called the Redmi 5 Plus? No kidding?? There was a name change? Well yes folks, the 2 new Redmi Note sized phones are named Redmi 5 for the 5.7″ and Redmi 5 Plus for the 5.99″. What will happen to the successor of the Redmi 4X which is supposed to be a 5″ Redmi 5? No one knows, but as of the moment, Xiaomi has decided to drop the Note name on their 5.7″ sized budget phones.”, claimed the post.
If we take a closer look at the specifications of Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, they match with leaked specifications of the Redmi Note 5. To recall, the speculated specifications include a 5.99-inch display with 1080 x 2160 pixels, a Snapdragon 625 SoC and 4GB of RAM. These specifications can be seen on Redmi 5 Plus.

The Redmi 5 Plus was launched in China recently. The phone comes in two RAM variants – 3GB and 4GB, priced at CNY 999 (roughly Rs 9,700) and CNY 1,299 (roughly Rs 12,700). There is no information regarding the launch of Redmi 5 Plus in India, as of now. It is possible that Xiaomi may launch the phone renamed as Redmi Note 5.
