Xiaomi To Launch “Desh Ka Smartphone” Soon; Redmi 5A Likely

Xiaomi has teased the launch of yet another phone in India. The company is promoting the phone as “Desh Ka Smartphone” and is likely to be the entry-level smartphone considering how inclined the Indian smartphone market is towards budget smartphones. Manu Kumar Jain, MD, Xiaomi India revealed the information on Twitter.

To recall, Reliance Jio launched the JioPhone in India in July this year. The phone is a feature phone and was promoted as “India Ka Smartphone” at the time of its launch. However, the new phone from is unlikely to be a feature phone.

Xiaomi leads the budget smartphone market in India and its cheapest phone in India costs Rs 5,999, so it will be interesting to see if Chinese manufacturer will go below Rs 5,000 mark this time. However, if the rumours turn out to be true, the Redmi 5A will be priced lower than the Redmi 4A which is priced at Rs 5,999. The Redmi 5A was launched in China recently priced at CNY 599 (roughly Rs 5,900). The company has not revealed exact date and price of the phone in India but it is expected to price the phone cheaper than the Redmi 4A.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A Specifications

The Redmi 5A features a 5-inch display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The phone will be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. The internal storage offered by the device is 16GB that can further be expanded up to 128GB with the help of a microSD card.

In terms of optics, the smartphone will sport a 13MP camera sensor on the rear featuring an LED flash. There will also be a 5MP front selfie shooter. The device will be backed up by a 3000mAh battery.

The company last launched Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite in India under its selfie-centric smartphone series and claims to have sold 1,50,000 units of the same in just 3 minutes during the first flash sale. The Chinese electronics manufacturer has already come up with a manufacturing unit in Noida, Uttar Pradesh for locally manufacturing its power banks.
