The much-anticipated budget smartphones from Xiaomi, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will be unveiled by the company in its homeland, China on December 7. Both the phone have been subjected to various leaks revealing edge-to-edge displays on both the phones. The news was confirmed by company’s spokesperson on Twitter. Both the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are expected to come with an aspect ratio of 18:9.
Xiaomi Global spokesperson, Donovan Sung took it to Twitter to reveal the launch date of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. Sung also revealed photographs of the phone revealing the design of the phones from all sides. The phones are company’s aim to bring bezel-less smartphones in budget. The phones look identical with each other with the Redmi 5 Plus being the larger of the two.
The phones are expected to come with a metal body and will feature a fingerprint sensor placed on the back just below the rear camera sensor sensor. The phones will be made available in three colour variants including Black, Pink and Light Blue.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Specifications
Sung did not reveal any specifications regarding the phone, but as per previous reports, the Redmi 5 will feature a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 450 SoC, which is an improvement compared to Snapdragon 435 SoC on the Redmi 4. The phone will come in three memory variants – 4GB RAM/64GB storage including two lower end models with 3GB and 2GB of RAM. The phone is speculated to run on Android 7.1 Nougat.
The phone is rumoured to sport a 12-megapixel camera sensor on the rear and a 5-megapixel camera sensor on the front. The battery is also rumoured to be of 3200mAh capacity.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Specifications
The high-end variant of the series, the Redmi 5 Plus will house even narrower bezels than the Redmi 5. The phone is speculated to feature a 5.9-inch HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone is rumoured to be powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC which will be the coupled with 3GB or 4GB of RAM. The two storage variants will be 32GB and 64GB internal storage.
The Redmi 5 Plus will also come with a 5-megapixel camera sensor will come with a front flash while the rear camera will be of 12-megapixel resolution. The phone is speculated to come with a larger battery of 4000mAh battery.
The Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4 are two of the best selling smartphones launched by the company. To recall, the company launched the Redmi 5A in India recently as an entry-level smartphone priced at Rs 5,999.
