The Redmi 5 from Xiaomi is yet to be launched in India, but in China, three variants of the handset have been released till now. The third variant comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage capacity in China and is now listed on the official Xiaomi store with the other two variant – 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM. The device comes with a price tag of CNY 1,099, which is directly converted is Rs. 11,000 and a premium of CNY 200, which is approximately Rs. 2,000. Other than the upgraded memory configuration, there are no other changes in the specifications of the handset. Launched in China with Redmi 5 Plus, this device is available in four color variant – Black, Gold color, Rose Gold and Light Blue.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 comes with a dual- nano SIM and runs on MIUI 9, which is based on top of Android Nougat. The handset features a 5.7-inch HD+ display of an aspect ratio 18:9 with a screen resolution of 720×1440 pixels. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor, this device is supported by a 3300mAh battery. The memory configuration of the three variants is – 2/3/4GB RAM with 16/32GB of internal memory capacity.

As far as the camera is concerned, the device the Redmi 5 sports a 12-megapixel camera with an aperture lens of f/2.2 at the back of the phone backed by flash and PDAF. For the selfie lovers, the handset is accompanied by a 5-megapixel camera sensor having a Beautify 3.0 feature that can enhance portraits. There is also a fingerprint sensor situated below the rear camera module. In terms of connectivity, the Redmi 5 includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, micro-USB, A-GPS and Bluetooth 4.2 with sensors such as a gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor.
