Sony To Reportedly Launch Smartphone With A Flexible 4K Display In Near Future

Sony is the only smartphone manufacturer to introduce 4K resolution display to its smartphones. These phones include Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia XZ Premium. A report now suggests that the firm may introduce Sony Xperia XZ Pro premium smartphone featuring a 4K OLED display in near future. The display might be flexible OLED panels and will be supplied by LG Displays.

According to a report by Business Korea, LG has been providing OLED display panels to Sony for high-end Sony TVs. The partnership is likely to be expended as LG is reported to supply flexible 4K OLED display panels to Sony. This suggests that Sony may launch a Xperia flagship phone with a flexible OLED display in near future.

Sony Xperia XZ Pro Specifications

All we know so far is that the Sony Xperia XZ Pro will feature a 5.7-inch OLED display that will come with 4K resolution support of 2160 x 3840 pixels. The phone might be the powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC and will house a dual rear camera setup. It may be unveiled at MWC 2018 alongside the Xperia XZ2.

Sony is the only smartphone manufacturer which has not made any changes in its smartphones design. Giants like Apple, Samsung and LG have launched bezel-less displays, dual camera to their flagships which are missing from Sony till date. Flexible displays are mainly used for curved edge displays. So, it may be expected that Sony may introduce a smartphone with a curved display similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 8.

Talking further about the flexible displays, Samsung recently showcased its flexible smartphone in a private meeting at CES 2018. The phone is speculated to be unveiled in front of the world by this year-end. A report by South Korean publication also suggests that Sony may also launch a foldable smartphone soon. LG Display manufactured OLED panels are used currently in LG G6, LG V30, and Google Pixel 2 XL.
