  • New Gold Colour may come in both variants
  • Official launch of the new colour on 8th August, 2017
  • Price of both variants is also expected to remain same

It seems to be a trend that OnePlus has been using with their smartphone launches each year. After introducing simple (read boring) grey or black colour options, the company have been known to take out a more upmarket colour of gold. With the OnePlus 5, the strategy seems no different as the Chinese phone company is speculated to take out a new colour option for their latest offering, mint gold. The news about the new variant came up with a recent Facebook post on the OnePlus official page stating, ‘Something new is coming up! Can you guess what it is?’ The phone has been revered across its users and the units that have been reviewed to have a brilliant set of features despite its price tag, which was expected to be lower.

The new version is expected to be sold in both 8GB RAM/128GB memory and 6GB RAM/64 GB memory, however, like its other versions, the update is purely cosmetic. This means the OnePlus 5 would still not get an expandable memory slot which in a way may put off a number of potential buyers who would be looking at such an option in the Rs 40,000 price range. The official announcement of the new variant would be made on 8th August.

OnePlus 5 Specifications

The OnePlus 5 is the flagship model from the company’s lineup till date and apart from the RAM and internal memory specs, it has a number of other features that put it a couple of notches ahead of its competitors. These include a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display, dual rear camera, the signature alert slider, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC processor and the latest Android Nougat updates with Oxygen OS updates. This makes the OnePlus 5 as an overall package an absolute powerhouse. Although, the 3,300mAh battery may not be enough to last the day under heavy usage as the HD display will consume a considerable amount of juice. That said, the term usage can be stated as subjective as it would depend from one person to other.

In order to cater to heavy usage which may include multiple accounts of gaming, playing music and checking regular social media updates, OnePlus provides a dash charger which charges the OnePlus 5 with six hours of standby battery in just 30 minutes.

So, while the change is only cosmetic, it may encourage potential buyers planning to buy a phone to wait a little while longer!
