Google entered the video calling service with Google Duo on August 16 last year. While it is available for Android as well as iOS devices, there were certain glitches in the app. For example, the video/audio icon on the interface of the app would disappear and despite repeated attempts, would not pop back up. Also, the user experience was rather bland so to speak.
That being said, Google has rolled out a new update of the app, version 16.0. The update includes a fairly better user experience without any glitches and there have been changes to the notifications settings. The new update also brings in support for Notifications Channel for the upcoming Android OS, Android O. This feature would let you customise sounds, vibrations, notification lights and more in the Google Duo.
Another major change in the Settings panel is the presence of Special Events and Topics section. According to AndroidPolice, the app now is smarter not popping up unnecessary notifications while you’re on a video call. That would surely annoy your mum while you’re on a video call with her.
The changes or updates aren’t available right away, but, will take some time to be updated for each smartphone. The first ones, however, would be Google’s Pixel models as well as some of the Nexus smartphones. That said, other phones would also get an update soon.
