The world is evolving day by day and so is the technology. For instance, the mobile phones have become a hub of such features be it a phone that scans molecules or a phone that comes with the thermal integrated camera. Joining the fleet of handsets with unusual traits is the all-new LG K7i, which keeps the mosquitoes at bay with its mosquito repellent feature.
The ‘Mosquito Away’ feature, as LG likes to call it, operates via the big hump at the back of its K7i phone. It emits ultrasound waves which keeps the mosquitoes away from you. This is not the first time the mosquito repellent is used in electronic devices. The electronics giant, LG has been using the same from quite some time in its ACs and televisions. However, for mobile phones, it’s a nice initiative.
It comes with a normal phone cover and the one with an additional speaker and mosquito away feature. It uses 30KHz ultrasonic sound waves to drive away mosquitoes. LG claims that this phone isn’t made up of any harmful substances and is harmless to humans. The smartphone does not require any refills and to activate it, one needs to place it over a stand.
The use of the technology is good, but a million dollar question arises that whether the use of ultrasound waves to disperse mosquitoes is successful or does it impact human body as well? Because, as per a 2010 story published in BBC, which studied 10 fields and found that ultrasound waves were not effective in preventing mosquito bites and are not recommended to be used.

23 days agoGoing by this, it seems the latest ‘Mosquito Away’ feature is more of a marketing stunt rather than a genuine feature. However, the LG K7i mobile with this feature likely creates a stir in developing markets like Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, etc, where people are tired of the increasing mosquito-related diseases. LG has already begun its promotional activities in these nations.
Apart from this insect repellent feature, the LG K7i lacks that punch in its feature list. Tagged at Rs 7,990, the dual-SIM phone runs on an Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It gets a 5-inch OnCell, 1280 x 720 resolution display and a 2,500 mAh battery. Weighing 138 grams, it measures 144.7×72.6×8.1mm. Surprisingly, it gets an unnamed 1.4GHz quad-core processor with 16GB internal memory and 2GB of RAM. The phone’s memory can be increased via a microSD card.
It gets an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. For connectivity options, it features 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, Micro-USB, FM radio, and 3.5mm audio jack. It comes with only one shade in India – Brown colour.
