The JioPhone is going to cost a lot more than expected. The shipping of the Jio handsets have already started and will able to reach around 6 million users. The company, however, has now updated its website to disclose the applicable terms and conditions of their JioPhone. After this, things have changed for all the users of the Jio Phone.
At the time of the launch of the JioPhone, Mukesh Ambani, MD of Reliance Industries Limited, said, “The JioPhone would be effectively free to customers, as the Rs 1,500 they are paying to Reliance Jio would be refundable after 3 years.” But the things are changed now because they did not disclose the recharge scenario of Rs 1,500 every year for the period of 3 years to take the benefit of their scheme and to use the phone.
The company terms and conditions reads, “The JioPhone is available for continued use for the recipient purchasing telecom recharge vouchers of Authorized Carrier (presently Jio Infocomm Limited) from the company or any of its authorized retailers for use in the JioPhone of a minimum value of Rs 1,500/- per annum for a period of 3 years from the date of the first issue of the JioPhone.”
That’s not it. The company Reliance Jio also stated: ‘Those users who fail to make recharges worth at least Rs 1,500 in a year, Reliance Jio reserves the right to ask the customer to return the handset and the faulty user would be liable to pay an additional charge to the company.
Another important point in the recently introduced terms and conditions on the JioPhone clarifies that, if the user wants to return the phone to the company, the customer who returns the handset within a year would be charged Rs 1,500 along with GST and other taxes. The customer who returns the JioPhone in the period of 12-24 months, would be charged Rs 1,000 along with GST and other taxes. For those customers who return the handset after two years but before completing 3 years, they would be charged Rs 500 with GST and other taxes.
So after getting all these terms and conditions, the customer will be spending around Rs 4,500 for the JioPhone or won’t be able to opt the other option. Till now more than 6 million Jio Phones have already been pre-ordered and the company has also started shipping their phones to the customers. Let’s see what will be the response of the customers after these recently disclosed “Terms and conditions.”
