Second Phase Of JioPhone’s Pre-Bookings To Reportedly Start After Diwali

Delivery of the most awaited and hyped JioPhone has started. There are customers who have already got their phone but many are yet to receive it. Various media reports that have surfaced claim that Reliance has somehow managed to book around 6 million JioPhones so far. But there has been no confirmation by the company on the same as of yet.

The bookings for the JioPhone aka ‘India ka smartphone’ started in August this year but the process was put on pause a few days later due to heavy demand and less available supply. Reliance, however, promised to recommence the pre-bookings for the JioPhone soon. Now, according to a PTI report that cited a Reliance Retail channel partner, Jio is likely to resume the booking process for its 4G feature JioPhone between October-end and November first week i.e., post-Diwali. As for those who booked the handset in August but are yet to receive it, the report claims that the deliveries in metro cities already started on Saturday and are likely to be completed by Diwali, October 19.

There is no concrete date set for recommencement of the pre-booking process yet. On the official website, the company has said- “We will inform you when [Jio Phone] pre-booking resumes.” Jio is probably going to launch its revised tariff plans on Diwali.

About 6 million JioPhones were booked by the public in a day and a half when the company opened bookings of its 4G feature phone on August 24 in the first phase. Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director, had announced that the 4G phone is going to be “effectively free” for users, but to avoid the misuse of the scheme, Jio Phone buyers and users will have to pay a one-time fully refundable amount of Rs. 1,500.

The entire deposited money will be refunded to the customer after the usage of the phone for 36 months. However, there are several conditions applicable and attached to get this refund. These include- spending at least Rs. 1,500 on recharges every year and using the handset regularly. If these conditions are not met, the company can simply ask the consumer to return the phone, can forfeit the refund and over it levy the applicable taxes as mentioned in the conditions set by Jio for the users.

Handset buyers can, however, get a refund of Rs. 500 if they return the device within the first year, provided they recharged their phone for Rs. 1,500 during that year. Similarly, on returning the phone in the second year, the customer can get a refund of Rs 1,000 and in the third year, the entire amount of Rs 1,500 will be refunded.
