Apple’s new OLED-equipped bezel-less iPhone X has started creating new waves in the gadgets and smartphone arena. The latest iPhone, whose anniversary edition will go on sale on November 3 and pre-order will kick-off from October 27, will see limited supplies in the current financial year. Moreover, the demands will be fully met next year i.e. in 2018. This was explained in a note by tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, a part of the Taiwan-based pan-Asian business group.
Interestingly, a week back, Ming-Chi Kuo had claimed that Apple will soon ramp up the production of iPhone X to catch up with the increasing demand. Apple’s current iPhone X production is less than 10,000 units per day. He had also projected that iPhone X will initially see “severe short supply for a while.”
In his new research note published by MacRumors, the tech analyst claims that Apple will not be able to cater to the high demand of iPhone X in the current year, which is expected to be somewhere around 40-45 million units. Come 2018 and the supply of the shipments will be at 80-90 million units. He further stated that it will take at least first six months of 2018 to completely meet the iPhone X demand.
As per Kuo, besides the supply constraints, at this moment, Apple would not like to cannibalize the sales of its iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. As a result, there are all chances that there will not be any pre-orders for next six weeks for iPhone X.
“We believe the fullscreen design and facial recognition features will drive replacement demand for the iPhone X. However, due to supply constraints, we expect market demand won’t be fully met before 1H18. We revise down our forecast for 2017F iPhone X shipments from 45-50 million to around 40 million units, but we, therefore, revise up our 2018 iPhone X shipment estimate to 80-90 million units,” Kuo says.
Moreover, when the launch takes place in November, the Gold variant will be available in limited numbers, on the other hand, other shades like Silver and Space Grey will be available in larger quantities against the Gold shade.
