Finally, the war between tipsters and leakers comes to an end, as the names of much-awaited devices from Apple have been confirmed as iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and of course the anniversary special device iPhone X. All the three devices will feature the Facial Recognition technology. These devices will run on iOS 11 GM, where GM stands for Golden Master, which is final version of the software.

The devices are scheduled to be launched at the iPhone’s tenth anniversary event on September 12. The iOS 11 GM offers some clues about the hardware and features about the iPhone X. Let’s take a look at all we know so far about the iPhone X.

With iOS 11 GM makes it certain that the device will feature an OLED screen. Tech giants including Samsung, Nokia, Google and OnePlus use OLED display in their devices as the advantage OLED enjoys over LCD displays is that it is thinner, lighter, brighter, has better contrast and consumes less energy. The iPhone X will come with an always-on display, a feature which is expected from Google’s upcoming flagship device Pixel 2. The iOS 11 GM also hints that display on the iPhone X will come with True Tone colour feature (introduced recently in iPad Pro) and a screen resolution of 1125×2436 pixels. It will have 3GB of RAM and at least 64GB of internal storage.

The iOS 11 further hints that the Apple will introduce the Face ID. The company will allow its users to unlock the device with the help of facial recognition technology. Some may say that the feature is not new as Microsoft had earlier introduced facial recognition feature in the Windows 10, but the iPhone X will come with a 3D Face ID technology. There are rumours that the Face ID may replace the existing Touch ID in the new device.

The smartphone will come with a bezel-less display, as seen in the recently launched flagship devices by Samsung and LG. There will be dual camera setup on the rear, similar to iPhone 7 Plus, but placed vertically. Both the rear and front camera are getting a hardware update to support the augmented reality feature Apple has introduced in the iOS 11.

The device will come in all glass body, helping the company to hide the antenna lines in a better way. There will be metal frames on the side of the device to house the power button and volume rockers. The 3.5mm audio port will be missing from the device while the charging is expected to be replaced with USB Type-C. Wireless charging is also expected in the new device. The iPhone X will also come with an IP68 water and dust resistance.

Price and Availability

Brace yourself, as the anniversary special device from Apple is bound to come with a special price, which is currently speculated to $999 for the 64GB memory variant. The 256GB variant will cost $1099, while the 512GB variant will cost $1199.

In India, the device is speculated to cost around Rs 1 lakh, but chances are that prices may start from Rs 90,000 for 64GB memory variant. The most expensive iPhone X may come with an eye-watering price of Rs 1.1 lakh in India.

The iPhone X along with the other two devices – iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be unveiled on September 12 and will on sale later. Usually, shipping of iPhones start 10 days after its launch, but in this case, it is expected to go pre-bookings from September 15 in US, and later in India. However, shipping of these devices will start from September 23. As there is no official information about pre-booking and shipping of these devices, these dates may change and you may have to wait a bit longer for the anniversary special device from Apple.
