TENAA Listing Reveals iPhone 8, 8 Plus Have Smaller Batteries Than Predecessor

With Apple’s iPhone handsets, the specifications on paper don’t reveal the whole picture. And this happens often. In lieu of the newly launched iPhone 8 models, TENAA listings have revealed a noteworthy aspect about the new handsets. The listing advocates that the new Apple handsets pack smaller batteries than their forerunners.

Whenever Apple announces a phone, it makes it a point to talk more user experience and fewer numbers. Similarly, as Apple did not mention battery capacity as well as RAM inside their newly launched phones, one has to compare the new iPhone with its predecessors to do a performance test of the same. The tech-giant optimises the battery power by coupling it with its software, even then, the battery rating of an iPhone’s battery is bad when compared with starred Android devices.

Spotted by popular tipster @Onleaks, the TENAA Listing of the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus shows that the devices pack 1821mAh and 2675mAh batteries respectively. Interestingly, however, last year’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus pack a 1960mAh battery and a 2900mAh battery respectively. This sounds like a crazy downgrade and hints that it will impact the battery life by a large amount. But according to Apple, it would not change a thing.

Apple in its official announcement also stated that the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will offer the same battery life as their last year’s models. This could, however, be made possible owing to the company’s A11 Bionic chip that has improved power efficiency cores. But nothing is solid as of yet.

In addition to the battery capacities, the listing also revealed the memory on the new iPhone models. The iPhone 8 comes with 2GB of RAM similar to the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 8 Plus comes with 3GB of RAM, similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 7 Plus.

What is worth noting is that the company has introduced glass backs in the new iPhone models. However, it is unclear if this in anyway is related to the reduction in battery capacity. It should be kept in mind that despite lower battery capacities than their starred Android counterparts, iOS devices mostly offer decent battery life due to the company’s reliance on optimised software that extracts the most juice out of the rather lacklustre battery on hand.

There aren’t any official statements on the same as of yet. All we can do for now is wait for the new iPhones to hit the shelves.
