IFA 2017 Prologue: Here Is What We Can Expect

One of the oldest industrial exhibitions globally, the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin or IFA 2017 is all set to be held from 1st September to 7th September this year. Not only has it been an exciting show in terms of manufacturers from various industries over the years, it has been particularly scintillating for gadgets around smartphones and new introductions themselves. Here is a list of the shop stoppers at the upcoming IFA 2017

LG V30

This has to be the highlight of the IFA show this year. The LG V30 is a fusion of its predecessor, the LG V20 and the popular LG G6. Considering the performance and features, it should be an immediate hit with enthusiasts. But, what will be a standout feature of the LG V30 is the rear dual lens camera with f/1.6 aperture, a first ever for a smartphone. Another highlight of the LG V30 will be its Daydream compatibility. This would offer a rich and immersive virtual reality experience. Thanks to the leaks that have been floating in the web world, we already know that the LG V30 would also be a very well-designed smartphone. It is set for introduction on 31st August, 2017.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear Sport

Like an eventful 2016, South Korean phone maker, Samsung will have an action packed 2017 as well. Just before the start of IFA 2017, the company will introduce its much-awaited Galaxy Note 8 which will come with the Infinity Display. Alongside the new smartphone, the company is also ‘gearing’ up to introduce its smart watches the Gear Fit 2 Pro and the Gear Sport as Samsung will be holding a press conference at the show.

Like the earlier launched smartwatches from Samsung, the Gear Fit 2 Pro and the Gear Sport will have an oval OLED display with IP68 waterproof compatibility. The watches can be used even while swimming. It would do what a smartphone is supposed to do, keep track of the calories burnt, show the time with the hassle of downloading apps or taking phone calls.

Sony Xperia XZ1, Xperia X1 and Xperia XZ1C

At every IFA, Sony has made interesting announcements and this year it would be no different. The company is expected to roll out three new phones, the Xperia XZ1, Xperia Z1 and the Xperia XZ1c. In terms of design, they are pretty much the same as Xperia’s previous iterations according to various leaks. However, the Xperia XZ1, in particular, will pack in the MotionEye technology, combining a high-resolution sensor with a super fast lens and advanced software to support it. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the only smartphone to shoot slow motion videos in 960fps and it would not be surprising that this feature is carried forward in this budget series, or, atleast one of them.

There is another rumour that this Xperia series would be the first one to get Android O, Google’s latest operating system for various smartphones. For the Android Nougat, this title has been held by
LG as it beat Google Pixel by just a few hours.

Blackberry KEYone Black Edition

Although Blackberry had been facing issues with its display popping out due to less adhesive, the company has not only fixed it but, is also set to launch another edition of the KEYone. The Blackberry KEYone Black edition will essentially be an all-blacked out phone. The KEYone Limited Edition Black is already available in India, however, it is unclear whether this will the same phone with a different name or there would be some improvements under the skin. A lot would be clarified at the IFA 2017.

Huawei Nova 2 series

The Chinese phone maker has always something to announce at IFA 2017. Since it has recently unveiled its P10 and P10 Plus phones, it is likely that their introductions at the show would be budget smartphones. The company is expected to roll out the Nova 2 series which would be initially available in North America and Europe, later on coming to India. Although dates are yet to be confirmed, the new Nova 2 series would be a mild update over the outgoing Nova models with medium level specifications.

Moto X4

If you thought Motorola’s X model range was dead after the introduction of the Z series, think again. The company is set to bring in an affordable flagship smartphone, the Moto X4. It will pack in a 3,000mAh battery as well as a dual camera setup, however, complete specifications would be available most like at the introduction during IFA 2016. Since the start of this year, the company has already introduced 10 phones in different price brackets and their momentum doesn’t seem to stop.
