Huawei Plans To Outdo Apple And Samsung With Its New Launch

The multinational technology giant, Huawei is ready to launch its new flagship phone next month. Huawei plans to take on rivals Samsung and Apple by using artificial intelligence-powered features such as instant image recognition in its phone, a top executive said on Saturday.

The flagship phone Mate 10 and other high-end Huawei phones will come with a new powerful mobile phone chip that will deliver faster processing and will lower power consumption. The company has planned to launch the Mate 10 and its sister phone, the Mate 10 Pro in Munich on October 16, as confirmed by Richard Yu, chief executive of Huawei’s consumer business. Yu declined to get into the details and features of the phone but if rumors and predictions are to be trusted, then the phone will come with a large 6-inch-plus full-screen display.

According to Yu, Artificial intelligence (AI) built into the new chips can help make Huawei’s phones anticipate the actions and interests of their users and make them more personalized. With examples, Yu explained that AI can enable real-time language translation, heed voice commands or take advantage of augmented reality, which overlays text, sounds, graphics and video on real-world images that phone users see in front of them.

Huawei Reveals Kirin 970 Processor With AI: Will Debut In Mate 10 And Mate 10 Pro

The company affirms that its newly announced Kirin 970 chip will preserve battery life on phones by up to 50 percent. Huawei describes the chip as the first Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for smartphones that brings together classic computing, graphics, image and digital signal processing power that typically requires separate chips, more space and slows the interaction between features within phones.

Moreover, Huawei aims to use the Kirin chips to differentiate its phones from the endless number of competitors, including Samsung, that overwhelmingly relies upon rival Snapdragon chips from Qualcomm, the market leader in mobile chip design. Among the sea of makers, only Apple and Huawei have their own core processors now.

The 970 chip is designed by Huawei’s HiSilicon chip design business and is built using the advanced 10 nanometer production lines of contract manufacturer TSMC.

“Compared with Samsung and Apple, we have advantages,” Yu said in an interview during the annual IFA consumer electronics fair in Berlin. “Users are in for much faster (feature) performance, longer battery life and more compact design.”

So much is anticipated but only time will reveal the real deal. Till then, let’s keep speculating and waiting.
