The Taiwanese consumer electronics firm was one among the pioneers to introduce dual camera setup in Android devices. However, it is seen that the HTC smartphones could not compete for the current generation of high-end devices. If you haven’t noticed, even the most recently released U11+ and U11 life from HTC also has a single camera setup unlike the previously released HTC One M9+, HTC One M8 etc which were among the first devices to bring out the trend of dual cameras.
However, it seems that the HTC is planning on a remarkable comeback with the introduction of dual cameras in its upcoming devices.
During the launch event of HTC U11+, President Chialin Chang confirmed that HTC will release dual camera smartphones in 2018. Chang said,” We’ll definitely be releasing a dual-camera phone next year, but we’ll need to figure out how to make this feature stand out.” Chang also claimed that HTC will be launching around six smartphones by 2018. No further information was revealed regarding the specification of the upcoming devices.
Users who have a history with HTC smartphones must be thrilled with this announcement. HTC started acing the dual camera trend by launching the 3D-enabled EVO 3D in 2012.Later that year, the company introduced “Duo camera” that offered the currently trending Bokeh-effect on its smartphones. Once HTC quit making the dual camera phones, other manufacturers like Samsung, Apple, OnePlus started rising in the market.
Chang also promised to be competitive with the USD 300 budget smartphone market in China which could mean a tough competition to Chinese smartphones like Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor, Vivo, Oppo etc.
HTC has recently launched the U11+ and U11 Life smartphones. The HTC U11+ is the first phone from the company to feature an edge-to-edge display.
The HTC U11+ is priced at EUR 799 and the HTC U11 is priced at USD 349.
We can expect HTC to release its next device by January 2018. Stay tuned for more updates.
