Google Investigating Pixel 2 XL Screen ‘Burn-In’ Issue

If you are planning to buy the Google Pixel 2 XL smartphone, you might want to reconsider that thought. People reviewing the latest Google Pixel 2 XL noticed a major issue with the device. According to a tweet posted by Alex Dobie(blogger from Android Central), he noticed a screen burn merely after one week of usage. Alex tweeted,” That’s some pretty wild OLED burn-in on the Pixel 2 XL after maybe 7 days of full-time use”. After Alex, many other users reported the same issue on their devices.

OLED screens are well known for their screen burns, however, this is the first time in history that it happened within a week of usage. Mostly “screen burn-ins ” are reported several months after continuos usage or when heavy objects are placed over the screen for a longer duration of time.A “screen burn-in” is an issue when the objects like navigation, windows, date etc remain visible even after closing the app.

The image posted by Alex Dobie shows navigation keys visible on the screen even turning off the screen.

However, it seems that Google already knows about the issue and is working on resolving it.

A spokesperson for Google during an interview with The Verge said that” The Pixel 2 XL screen has been designed with an advanced P-OLED technology, including QHD+ resolution, wide color gamut, and high contrast ratio for natural and beautiful colors and renderings. We put all of our products through extensive quality testing before launch and in the manufacturing of every unit. We are actively investigating this report.”

Even though the image seems to be genuine, there is a huge probability that what we see is an image retention and not a “screen burn-in”.And if that is the case, the image retention will wipe off in a short duration of time.

However, if it is actually a real Screen-burn in, then Google should take immediate action otherwise they might end up losing valuable customers.

We will keep an eye on Google’s actions in resolving the issue and will definitely keep you updated with every detail of the Google Pixel 2 XL.
