iPhone X and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 were launched on September 12 and August 23 respectively and the battle is on, it has always been on though. The two tech giants have always competed with each other to give users the best smartphone experience.
Both Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone X represent the best smartphones offered by the respective companies. The Galaxy Note 8 is possibly one of the best Android phones there is in the market and the iPhone X is the best iPhone by default.
Apple’s iPhone X (pronounced ten) is the latest flagship smartphone from the company and it also marks the tenth-anniversary of the iPhone. The phone features a notably new design and has a near bezel-less display. Apple has removed the home button for the first time from its iPhone and has replaced it with the Face ID which, is a new technique where your face acts as a password to unlock your phone.
But is this feature enough to beat the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 that had a bezel-less display in its S7 or Note 7 as well? Let’s make a detailed comparison between the two top of the line smartphones based on their USP among other things.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 V/S Apple iPhone X
Display
Apple’s iPhone X is the first iPhone to feature an OLED display which is a big upgrade over the LCD panel. Samsung however, had a super AMOLED display in its previous smartphones as well. The Galaxy Note 7 and the S7 also the same display. So, the Note 8 and the S8 having a Super AMOLED display is definitely not a big deal.
Note 8 has a 6.3-inch, 2960 x 1440 display (521ppi), while the iPhone X sports a 5.8-inch panel with 2436 x 1125 pixels (458ppi). The Galaxy Note 8 has a display that eclipses iPhone X’s 5.8-inch panel and is far brighter than the latter’s. Also, the iPhone X has an impressive maximum brightness of 625 nits (unit of visible-light intensity) but Galaxy Note 8 maxes at 1200 nits and comparing the two doesn’t sound like a good idea here for sure.
Unlocking And Login Options
iPhone X solely relies on facial recognition system and is called Face ID for biometric authentication. The Face ID unlocks the device and authenticates Apple Pay. It sounds like a fancy idea but the makers have restricted users to unlock the phone with the Face ID only. Samsung Galaxy Note 8, however, allows users to log in through various ways, including Iris scanner, fingerprint login and face detection. And people like options, there is no doubt about it.

11 days agoApple has however stuffed in a lot of hardware in its Face ID including the Infrared sensor, True Depth Camera, dot projector and flood illuminator to precisely map the user’s face. According to Apple, Face ID cannot be fooled by 3D masks or pictures of the user whereas the case is a little different with the face scanner on Samsung’s S8 series that can be tricked.
Camera
Both iPhone X and Note 8 come with optically stabilized dual cameras on the back. The iPhone X has a 12MP wide-angle sensor with an f/1.8 aperture alongside another 12MP telephoto sensor with an f/2.4 aperture which, allows for 2X optical zoom and image capturing with the depth of field effects. The Note 8 also comes with a somewhat alike dual camera setup- a main 12MP wide-angle lens with an f/1.7 aperture and a secondary 12MP telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture to allow capturing of bokeh shots with 2X optical zoom.
Headphone Jack
iPhone 7 and 7 plus did not have a headphone jack and even after the idea had been disliked by a lot of Apple fans, the company is still trying to push the idea of a ‘jack-less future’ with its iPhone X as well. Galaxy Note 8, however, has the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack that gives the freedom to plug in any headphone with the phone. If you are planning to buy the iPhone X, get used to the idea of using wired headphones with a lightning connector or carrying an adapter with you.
USB Type-C Port
Apple iPhone X sticks to the company’s trademarked Lightning port for charging just like its predecessors. Despite the initial reports of Apple probably adopting a universal USB Type-C standard, nothing has changed. What’s puzzling is that the latest MacBooks support the Type-C standard and the iPhone doesn’t. Samsung Galaxy Note 8, however, comes with the USB Type-C connector like all high-end flagships of 2017.
Pricing In India
Prices matter for everyone, even for the fanatics and the lovers. Both the companies are charging premium prices and this obviously doesn’t come as a surprise. In India, users have to pay quite less for the Galaxy Note 8 as they will have to pay for the iPhone X. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will cost around Rs. 67,900 for a 64GB storage model, the iPhone X however, is priced at Rs. 89,000 for the base unit. The top model of the iPhone X will cost a mammoth Rs. 102,000 for a 256GB storage variant.
