Reliance India Limited is all set to introduce its entry-level phone soon, bookings for which have already commenced. The company is set to garner a considerable market share in the entry-level phone segment since a number of users prefer them over delicate touchscreen smartphones. Although a number of smartphone users would disagree, there is a substantial chunk of users who prefer conventional phones. In this battle of entry-level models, rumours about Airtel 4G Phone being launched for as low as Rs 2,500 have surfaced. The tip-offs made to ET have also suggested that this phone would be introduced around the festive season.
“Airtel is talking to some handset manufacturers to bring in a smartphone around Rs 2,500, which will have a bigger screen, better camera and better battery performance than what a feature phone could offer. “Discussions are at a very advanced stage,” ” a senior industry executive aware of Airtel’s plans told ET. According to the same report, Lava and Karbon have confirmed about an individual discussion with the Telecom giant.
What the Airtel 4G Phone Means For The Company
Since the introduction of Jio, other network operators including Airtel have been facing a considerable brunt. That’s because the Reliance-owned brand has been offering a substantial amount of data at rock-bottom tariffs. In fact, the first move was to offer a Jio SIM card for free without any hidden costs. For some time, users also enjoyed free data as well as voice calls and after tariff was levied, it was still way below the competition.
