Highlights

  • May come as entire new lineup
  • Expected in mid-2018
  • Samsung has already showcased its foldable display design

Recently, a report surfaced that a smartphone with model number SM-G888N0 has been spotted that is widely suspected to be a foldable smartphone from Samsung and will most probably be called Samsung Galaxy X. The South Korean giant announced the SM-G888N0 phone yesterday and to your disappointment it is not a foldable phone. The phone is a rugged handset and is not what we were hoping it to be. The image or other information regarding the phone have not been revealed by the company as of now.

Galaxy X

We do not know if the Galaxy X even exists or not but we would surely see it taking a physical form in future. Considering some previous reports the first phone from Samsung will belong to an entirely new lineup and would not be belong to any existing product family.

However, nothing has changed in context to the Galaxy X and we still expect Samsung to launch its first smartphone in 2018 itself. Rumours have it that the company may showcase such a phone during Consumer Electronics Show scheduled to be held in the first half of January 2018.

The SM-G888N0 is a rugged phone and we are hit by a shock. We expect Samsung would be the first to launch a true foldable smartphone. Other tech giants including LG and Vivo are also expected to come up with a foldable smartphone in future as Vivo has already showcased foldable display earlier and LG has reportedly partnered with Apple to bring a foldable iPhone by 2020. ZTE recently launched the Axon M that features two displays and phone can be folded from the point where both the displays are connected to each other. The phone was however not able to remain in the headlines for much longer.
